DREAMLAND: A FRANK ROMERO RETROSPECTIVE
by Museum of Latin American Art
The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) needs your help to bring the most comprehensive retrospective exhibition to date of legendary Chicano artist Frank Romero to Southern California. Dreamland: A Frank Romero Retrospective (February - May, 2017) will present works highlighting over 50 years of the artists' career.
Never before have Frank's greatest paintings, sculptures, prints and ceramics come together in one exhibition. Dreamland is both a celebration of Frank's extraordinary career as well as an acknowledgement of the contributions of Chicano art and artists to the cultural fabric of the United States. You can help bring this important exhibition, along with related public and educational programs to MOLAA.

ABOUT DREAMLAND
Born in East Los Angeles, Frank E. Romero is one of the most iconic L.A. artists of our time and is the last practicing founding member of the Los Four artists collective, which broke down barriers and introduced Chicano art to the mainstream. The career retrospective will explore early works, paintings from the Los Four period, plus his powerful, politically-charged works from the 90’s and recent works in ceramics.
Dreamland encompasses many firsts – the first museum retrospective of Frank’s work, the first solo exhibition of a Chicano artist at MOLAA and the first comprehensive catalogue of Frank Romero’s work. To accompany Dreamland, MOLAA is producing an exhibition catalogue with essays from renowned Chicano art scholars and images of the exhibition’s artwork. This important publication will make Frank’s story and the story of the Chicano experience accessible to future generations.

To complement Dreamland, MOLAA is developing an array of public and educational programs to engage audiences of all ages.
On February 12, 2017 MOLAA will open Dreamland to the public with a FREE family-friendly festival including music, exhibition tours, a car show, vendors and art activities. Throughout the spring, MOLAA will produce a number of public programs, such as panel discussions, lectures, film screenings and art workshops, in conjunction with Friday Nights at MOLAA and the Target Free Sunday Festival series.
APRENDE (LEARN), MOLAA’s arts education program, will make Dreamland the focus of its spring programming. The program provides free transportation to the Museum for K-12 students from underserved schools, exhibition tours led by specially trained docents and exhibition-related art workshops led by MOLAA Teaching Artists. An estimated 4,000 students will participate during the Dreamland exhibition.
To make our vision of Dreamland a reality we need your help to raise $15,000 by September 30, 2016!
